Day of Memory and Commitment in Remembrance of Victims of Organised Crime
The XVI Day of Memory and Commitment to Remember the Victims of the Mafia will take place in Potenza on 19th March
On March 21, every year, the Italian civil society celebrates the Day of Memory and Commitment in Remembrance of Victims of Organised Crime.
March 21, the first day of spring, is the symbol of renewed hope. The Day of Memory gives relatives of victims of mafia the chance to reflect on their mourning as they search for real justice, transforming their pain into a effective, and non-violent, instrument of peace and change.
In 2011 the Day of Memory will take place in Potenza, South Italy, on Saturday 19th March. The event, which saw the participation of more than 100.000 people in 2010, will begin with the march in the morning, followed by the reading of the names of victims of mafia. In the afternoon several workshops and seminars are planned.
FLARE Network will participate at the Day of Memory and will bring to Potenza several guests, including relatives of victims of transnational organised crime, participants of Project Echo and members of the European Youth Press association.
