Commemoration day in memory of victims of organised crime
In March, every year, the Italian civil society celebrates the Commemoration day in memory of victims of organised crime.
March 21, the first day of spring, is the symbol of renewed hope. The Day of Memory gives relatives of victims of mafia the chance to reflect on their mourning as they search for real justice, transforming their pain into a effective, and non-violent, instrument of peace and change.
In 2011 the Day of Memory will take place in Genoa on Saturday 17th March. The event, which saw the participation of more than 100.000 people in 2010, will begin with the march in the morning, followed by the reading of the names of victims of mafia. In the afternoon several workshops and seminars are planned.
