A two-day event in Paris and Palermo to reflect upon the role of civil society in fighting and preventing crime
The Foundation Giovanni e Francesca Falcone organises, together with the European Forum for Urban Security and other relevant partners, two international events in the frame of the project Waves of Legality, Waves of Citizenship supported by the Europe for Citizens Programme of the European Union.
The project aims to reinforce the role of organised civil society in combating and preventing crime and fostering the cooperation between the law enforcement system and civil society.
It will involve 143 participants from five countries in activities connected to the promotion of culture of legality, promoting their civic commitment and their awareness on their role of active citizens toward crime prevention.
The project is focused on two main activities :
- An international seminar on the role of civil society in combating and preventing crime and possible cooperation with the law enforcement institutions;
- The participation of an international group of citizens to the celebrations and the initiatives connected with the 19th anniversary of the murder of the judge Giovanni Falcone, killed by mafia.
During the first event the participants will exchange their perception and knowledge about the organised crime and will have the possibility to get in direct contact with some experts on crime prevention and fighting, including representatives of EuroJust, FBI, Antimafia prosecution Offices.
During the second event, the participant will take part in all the activities connected to the anniversary, having debates and exchanges with Sicilian participants, meeting students, taking part in the so called Boat of Legality which will bring 2.000 Italian students to the celebrations.
